It can be all too tempting to succumb to the vices you’re meant to be protecting against when you have the protection of being a law enforcement officer. Access and privilege are key ingredients to help corruption take root. All it takes then is the right opportunity and a touch of influence – maybe from a colleague, a superior with an eye for spotting talent, or perhaps a family member who needs a favour from a friendly asset on the inside.
A Crooked Cop that isn’t acting under duress may not have too many regrets. Theirs is a tough and undervalued job. If their paymasters can’t compensate them properly, the low-life criminal scum on the other side of the faded blue line can certainly help subsidise the lifestyle they want. Nobody’s really getting hurt, after all.
I’m a Crooked Cop, of course I can pull strings, check you records, call in favours, legally intimidate, protect and serve, get cover, be official and officious, reasonably request access, know my way around town.
